I chose the political cartoon called "Santa Obamas Lap" drawn by John Cole. It was published on 12/18 by The Scranton-Times Tribute.
This cartoon is talking about how much Obama has on his plate, and how there are still many people looking for jobs. In the cartoon, Obama is dressed up as Santa and there is a boy asking for a job for Christmas. Obama is saying that he will give him a health care bill, military escalation in Afghanistan, and legislation to combat global warming, but never says anything about a job. The cartoon is showing that Obama is doing things for these other issues, but forgetting one of the most important ones.
I agree with this message in the fact that Obama does seem to be working more with these other issues than unemployment. Unemployment is a very big issue, but I don't know how much Obama should be getting criticized yet. He still has time to fix this problem. It's a hard problem to be fixed, but I think he is trying. He obviously has a lot of issues to handle right now and I think he is just making his way down the list, even though unemployment should probably be higher on it.

I agree with you. Obama does have a lot on his plate but I feel like he should concentrate some of his work on this issue as well. People need jobs and he should definitely concentrate on this as well as the health care, war on terror, and global warming
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that recently Obama has strayed from his goal to employ the american populace, but at the same time, unfortunately many more attention demanding issues have made themselves known, causing the employment issue to take a backseat, despite the ad nauseum reiteration of employment being a main focus of the administration early on.
ReplyDeleteObama was faced with a hard job and he is doing his best to get it done. He was left with a lot of crap going on, and everyone expected him to immediately clean it up. It was going to take a while though. He has no ill intentions for us, but he is trying his best and it isnt easy.
ReplyDeleteAny president that won the election would have had a very difficult time getting to all of them. Obama has had to face a lot of problems, and he is trying to get to all of them but right now our country is in a state where complaining is really not going to do anything.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way to deny that Obama did have a huge list of issues to deal with immediately after taking office. However I feel that employment and the economy should of been at the very top at the list and instead he focused mainly on the health care reform. Im not saying that health care shouldn't be anything to worry about I just feel that at this point we need to take action on the economy.
