Current Event 2: 8 U.S. troops killed in battle with militants in Afghanistan

This article says how Afghan troops in Eastern Europe open fired on American troops on Saturday. 8 troops plus two other members of the Afghan National Security Force died, which is the largest number of Americans to die because of a single day hostile action in more than a year. At least 13 Afghan police officers were captured in the attack and the fighting lasted about 12 hours.

Troops over in Afghanistan is becoming a big issue these days. Americans are getting killed everyday. Obama had talked about taking troops out of Afghanistan, but then he also wants the Americans to do their job over there. The military officers say that in order to do that, they need to keep getting more troops. The more troops we send over, the more Americans that die. Is it worth losing so many American lives?

  1. This article proves the point that we are still not wanted in Afghanistan. We never were and it looks like we'll never be. This also brings up the point about pulling the troops out of there. Obama has talked about it but there has been no action yet. Maybe we'll see something happen in the near future.

  2. It's troubling to see that so many Americans are losing their lives in this war and that there is no clear end in sight. With 2 siblings in the military (thankfully not overseas), the increased death rate is scary. I feel like so many people assume that the death toll should be decreasing because the war has been going on so long, when in actuality, it's getting worse.

  3. i agree with polito. I am not totally sure about Obamas plan in afganistan. i do know that there is a problem when troops are dying when there is almost no reason. This has been going on for so long in the middle east, and should come to an end soon. There needs to be a more solid plan so this sort of stuff will not happen any more.
